Ohio State Trademark Placement Policies:
In an effort to maintain consistency and continuity in the depiction of the trademarks of the Ohio State University, the Office of Trademark & Licensing Services has adopted the following guidelines for use of a manufacturer's name and / or trademarks on an approved licensed product.
As required by the license agreement, the Licensee's name must appear on each licensed product. This may be accomplished either through screen printing, embroidery, hang tags, heat seals, embroidered patches, the Collegiate Licensed Product Label (CLP Label), or packaging.
The Licensee's trademarks should not be placed next to, or in close proximity to Ohio State's trademarks, or incorporated into designs that include the Ohio State trademarks. In regard to apparel, for licensees who identify their goods by including their name in screen printed designs, the company name must be unobtrusive.
Licensees wishing to place their name under or beside screen-printed designs may do so in either of the following formats:
- Licensed Company Name c2006 Ohio State University
- Produced by Licensed Company Name Under license from Ohio State University c2006
The licensee's trademark may appear in a maximum of two locations on the outside of any licensed apparel product, excluding headwear (which are addressed below). However, if only one Ohio State trademark appears on the licensed product, only one Licensee trademark may appear on the product. "Jock Tags" or other labels that contain the licensee's trademark count as one placement.
For headwear and other licensed products, the Licensee's trademark may appear only once on the outside of each item.
The licensee's trademark may not appear in a more visible location than the Ohio State marks. For example, the licensee's trademark s may not appear on the front of a garment and the Ohio State trademarks on the back.
On reversible garments, these guidelines will apply to both sides of the garment. For example, a licensee's trademark may not appear along on one side of the garment, or in a larger format than the Ohio State trademarks. Each side will be treated as a separate garment.
Hang tags that contain the licensee marks, or other forms of non-permanent licensee identification, are not counted as a placement in regard to these guidelines.
Licensee trademarks on adult apparel, headwear or general merchandise may be no larger than 1.5" square.
Licensee trademarks on youth and infant merchandise may be no larger than 1.25" square.
